It was the annual Battle of the Lake so you just knew that it was going to be … wait for it – a battle.

The Lake Oswego and Lakeridge tennis teams went at it hard on Wednesday, May 7, with the Laker boys team winning three of four singles matches to beat the Pacers 5-3 at Lake Oswego High School, while the LO girls team took three of four doubles matches to beat Lakeridge 5-3 at Lakeridge High School.

Along with a 7-1 win over Tigard on Friday, May 9, the LO boys’ 11th straight, Lake Oswego improved to 8-0 in Three Rivers League action and 11-0 overall. Lakeridge, meanwhile, saw its one-match winning streak snapped and fell to 4-4 in TRL action and 7-4 overall.

In girls play, the Lakers also beat Tigard 8-0 on Friday for their second straight win and improved to 9-2 in Three Rivers League play and 8-5 overall. The Pacers, meanwhile, saw their season-long 14-match winning streak snapped and fell to 9-1 in TRL play and 14-1 overall.

After the end of the regular season, the boys and girls teams from Lake Oswego and Lakeridge will play in the Three Rivers League district tournament on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, May 14-16, at Portland Tennis Center. The top four individual finishers in singles and the top four doubles teams from the TRL district tournament will qualify for the Class 6A state tournament.
