Lake Oswego left no doubt.

The Laker girls golf team, competing in the Three Rivers League district tournament at Stone Creek Golf Club on Monday, April 6, continued the dominance it established during the regular season to win the TRL title by 31 shots.

The complete team scoring included: Lake Oswego 309, West Linn 340, Tualatin 381, Lakeridge 417, Tigard inc., St. Mary’s inc.

With their win, the Lakers secured an automatic team berth to the Class 6A state tournament, set for Monday and Tuesday, May 19-20, at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn. Besides Lake Oswego, Lakeridge freshman Hannah Wendorf and West Linn freshman Brianna Chen also qualified for state as individuals.

The teams from West Linn, Tualatin and Lakeridge qualified for the Special District 2 regional golf tournament at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.

For Lake Oswego, junior Hailey Lim won her first TRL title after shooting a stellar 5-under-par 67 to beat Pacer runner-up Wendorf by two shots. Lim – previously a two-time district runner-up – notched an eagle and a birdie on her front nine, then posted five birdies and no bogeys for a 31 on the back side.

“I definitely started out with some nerves and I think that showed after the first couple holes, but one of my coaches … told me to slow down a bit,” Lim said. “That really helped me get back into a good mindset and helped me to feel more confident with my scoring capabilities.”

In addition to Lim’s efforts, Lake Oswego senior Olivia Mygrant took third overall at 79, followed by junior Kennady Hottel in fourth overall at 81, while senior Ansley Kang and junior Alexis Zou tied for sixth at 82.

“I’m super excited about the team and where we’re headed for state,” Lim added. “We’ve all improved a lot this season and we’re just hoping it shows.”

For second-place West Linn, Chen led the way after tying for sixth at 82, ending her day with three birdies and seven pars.

“Overall, I feel good (about how) I played,” Chen said. “There’s always room for improvement, especially with my approach shots and chipping, but I’m proud of how I stayed composed throughout the round. The key was definitely staying calm and learning to let go of any mistakes quickly so I could focus on the next shot.”

After Chen, junior Sissi Cao took ninth with an 83, senior Alyssa Riehm finished 10th at 85, junior Grace Geyer placed 13th at 90 and junior Emmie Butler placed 17th at 103.

“I’m really proud of how our team played,” Chen said. “Everyone has been working hard and it’s great to see that effort showing up on the course. Our coaches have been incredibly encouraging and positive, which has made a big difference in mentality. I think we have a really great chance at getting to state.”

For Lakeridge, Wendorf battled to second place with her 3-under-par 69, a round that included four birdies and just one bogey.

“I played good, but definitely would have done better if more putts dropped,” Wendorf said. “But overall, I’m fine with my round. It wasn’t bad. The key for me was to just stay calm and focused.”

After Wendorf, sophomore Marley Platt finished 16th with a 100, junior Laurel Parkinson placed 20th at 107 and junior Ella Neilson took 25th at 141.

“My team made it to regionals (so) I’m super proud of everyone,” Wendorf said. “I hope we can go to state.”
