An event hosted by the city of Lake Oswego and Clackamas County will teach community members about mental health awareness and suicide prevention from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at Lake Oswego City Hall.
Presenters include Clackamas County Health Officer Dr. Sarah Present and Suicide Prevention Coordinator Galli Murray, and the event will also include hands-on intranasal Narcan training, the chance to discard unwanted or expired prescriptions, giveaways of lock boxes for handguns and medication, and safe disposal for things like EpiPens and syringes.
According to the city’s website, Present and Murray will “discuss the importance of mental health awareness, who is at risk for suicide, trends we are seeing nationally and regionally, and how we can support someone who is struggling.”
Many local and broader organizations, such as The Clackamas Crisis and Support Line and the Clackamas County Mobile Crisis Response Team, Lines for Life, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Lake Oswego police and fire departments, will also be on hand for the event.
“We talk openly about our physical health issues but not so much about our mental health. Let’s start talking about it!” the city website said.
